If you are considering orthodontic treatment for your adolescent child we highly recommend reading the information below.
When should Adolescent treatment begin?
The recommended time for adolescents to begin orthodontic treatment is between the ages of 11 and 15. By 12, most of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place so crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can be easily detected. It is important to schedule a consultation with your orthodontist as soon as possible because these problems do not correct themselves. Many children in this age range undergo orthodontic treatment, and wearing braces is very typical of this age group.
Benefits of Adolescent treatment
At this age, your child is still growing, and orthodontists can usually take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape their bite and teeth correctly. This age group tends to have a shorter overall treatment time than older patients undergoing similar orthodontic treatment.
