How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

The Invisalign® system is a modern orthodontic treatment that moves your teeth through the use of clear aligners.

Each aligner is worn about 22 hours a day for one to two weeks (then replaced with a new set of aligners) with regular office visits every ten to twelve weeks to check orthodontic progress. Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign is as affordable as traditional braces and can take anywhere from six to eighteen months to complete treatment.

Dr. Ben Fishbein shares that, “Teenagers may not have to wear their Invisalign as long as adults as their teeth are easier to move and are more responsive to the treatment. Their mouths and bites are still developing. Complex cases for both teens and adults may take longer than normal.”

Wearing the aligners consistently is the most important step to creating a healthy and beautiful smile. If the aligners are not worn as instructed, they may not apply the prescribed pressures to the teeth and jaws which are necessary to shift the teeth.

Losing any of the aligners will also cause a delay, as a replacement will be needed to be created and shipped. Those patients will need to wear the previous aligner until the replacement is ready.
